What to Look Forward to: Upcoming WPS Events

- Consortium Coffee Chat

The Consortium will be joined by Branden Ryan, a senior specialist in gender policy and social inclusion at Chemonics International. Founded in 1975, Chemonics is a leading international development think tank. Register to learn more about potential career paths and summer 2023 internship opportunities!

- International Women’s Day!

It’s safe to say that this is the Consortium’s favorite day of the year:) Last year, our celebrations included an inspiring conversation with visiting Shapiro Professor, Muqadessa Yourish, a former deputy minister for the pre-Taliban government of Afghanistan. She discussed the state of women’s rights in a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

This year on March 8th, our IWD event will be titled 1325: Standing Strong. We will be joined by experts in the field to discuss the achievements and setbacks of the WPS agenda since the implementation of UN Resolution 1325, and celebrate the bright future ahead. The conversation will be followed with free food and drinks. This event will be a great networking opportunity and, as always, lots of fun! We will be in touch with further details as the date approaches.

What We’ve Been Up to: Recent WPS Events

16 Days of Activism Campaign

We took to social media at the end of last year to participate in the #16DaysofActivism Campaign. Starting November 25th, which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we partnered with S.H.E. Collective to raise awareness about gender based violence. Special shoutout to Mimi, our social media director, for these informative and creative graphics!

ESIA Student Organization Affiliation

The Consortium is excited to announce that we are affiliated as an official student organization through the Elliott School of International Affairs. This is an exciting next step for the Consortium, and we are looking forward to further promoting our mission with the help of the school.

General Body Meetings

  • Our general body meetings are at 2:00pm every Friday. This semester, we will be having hybrid meetings.

    This semester, alongside planning for our International Women’s Day Event, we will be offering interactive professional development workshops, opportunities to fundraise for the Consortium, and another in-person tour of a government agency.

    We see our General Body meetings as a space to learn about the WPS agenda and how it can translate into the workforce, providing our members with great resources to explore possible career paths!

-The Poetry of War and Peace, event at the USIP with an acclaimed poet and a Washington Post columnist, February 3rd

-Senior Research Fellow and Research Fellow, Gender Climate and Security News, Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security

-Charles B Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program, 6 week intensive through Howard University

-Chemonics International, internship programs at international development think tank, more postings to come
