What to Look Forward to: Upcoming WPS Events
We are excited to announce our partnership with OUT in International Affairs to celebrate Transgender Awareness Week, Nov. 13th to 19th. On Nov. 14th, we will be facilitating a discussion with experts from both the activist and government communities on the state of transgender issues in international affairs.
We will also be hosting a D.C. Consortium on WPS Alumni event on Nov. 18th! This will be a great opportunity to learn from and network with former Consortium members who can shed light on how WPS is applicable in the professional world.

What We’ve Been Up to: Recent WPS Events
-We were grateful for the opportunity to cosponsor an event with Emily’s List, a political action committee aimed at electing Democratic pro-choice women to office. Through the relationship building training, participants learned valuable lessons that can be applicable in promoting the WPS agenda.
-The Consortium went on their first agency tour! At the U.S. Institute of Peace, we spoke with Negar Ashtari Abay about her work as Program Officer of Gender Peace and Security. This was a great way for students to learn how their interest in WPS can translate into a career.
-We were also major sponsor for an incredible event titled “The Only Latina in the Room:Female Representation in National Security.” We learned about representation and equity in the international security space and got to network with an inspiring group of Latina leaders.
New Publication
Our newest publication, “Undermining the Prevailing of Feminist Foreign Policy: The Case of Argentina” is available to read. We would like to send a huge congratulations to the author, Anaïs Martin, and encourage you to check it out here!
New Gender Concentration Featured in the Hatchet
Our founder Dr. Graham was referenced in a Hatchet article on the new Gender Concentration through the Elliott School.
“Shirley Graham – the director of the Gender Equality Initiative in International Affairs, a group of Elliott School faculty and staff who promotes gender inclusivity in international affairs – said she created the concentration to make students more proficient in the growing field of gender in international affairs after her students expressed interest in the topic in past semesters… ‘This makes the Elliott School a leader in the field of Gender in International Affairs by recognizing feminist international relations theory and gender analysis as critical tools in fully understanding processes of globalization, international development, humanitarian crises, violent extremism, conflict, peace and security,’ Graham said in an email.”

General Body Meetings
-Our general body meetings have commenced!
- 2:00pm every Friday over Zoom, with hybrid meetings to come
-This month, we had the opportunity to speak with Negar Rezvani, a young Iranian poet and refugee. Our GBMs are a great space for productive and inspiring discussion.
